If the Nov. 5 election were held today, 45% of likely voters in L.A. County would vote for Hochman, while just 20% would vote for Gascón, according to the new survey from the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies, co-sponsored by The Times…

…as of now, there is “broad-based support for Hochman across nearly every subgroup,” according to Mark DiCamillo, director of the poll, conducted between July 31 and Aug. 11.

Gascón’s image among voters is largely negative, with 21% offering a favorable opinion and 45% an unfavorable opinion. By contrast, 35% offered a favorable opinion of Hochman and just 7% held an unfavorable opinion.

  46. big Joe – why do you think Georgia won’t send electors. I personally don’t think GA will be that close

Vic, if Trump is leading, then of course his electors will be certified. If Harris is leading, then we will have a problem. The election board changed the rules recently that allows them to basically hold up certification for any “reasonable” cause. That, and now the hand-counting rule, pretty much guarantees that the election can not be certified by the mid-Dec deadline.

In that case, we will enter uncharted waters .. It will take some time to dig into the details here, but I believe that the state legislature and/or governor could then appoint a slate of electors.

  48. All the GA elections board is trying to do is reconcile the before and after ballot counts if there appear to be some irregularity with the vote counts. The media, of course, is freaking out and warning about how onerous this will prove to be. But, with all the problems associated with GA’s 2020 election – ballot glitches, a dominion machine report sealed for years — these measures seem fitting in hopes of slowing down or preventing fraud in a fe months.

Today, The Hill has story about these ‘canaries in the coal mine’ popping up here and there. They mention the CBS reporter that found only 3 Harris supporters in three different restaurants in Las Vegas while the rest were ‘really excited’ about Trump.

The author calls this fear from the working class (and more specific the white working class) or the scared majority. They are scared of what’s happening to their country.

And this author predicts this scared majority will propell Trump to landslide victory.

I don’t know about a landslide but agree with the results.

  55. In GA, the hand count is not necessarily a concern as long as it can be done quickly. The bigger issue is that certification can be held up for any “reasonable” cause by the election board. So one can imagine the infinite “reasonable” causes that will inevitably materialize if Harris is ahead …

  66. John Goggin, the Hill link you posted was not only encouraging but also valid. More and more focus groups seem to be be evaluating candidates more on their policies, not their unrealized promises. In GA, for instance, a small black undecided group didn’t mince words in pointing out Harris’s thin policies and lack of strong convictions. Also, college campuses are seeing large gatherings for TPUSA events, enthusiastically wearing the emblematic red hats Charlie Kirk distributes. Even rallies for Trump are growing in size, undeterred by the incessant negative press lies/allegations and stories, or assassination attempts. RFK Jr. remarks, about the dem party now having 70% of the wealth while republicans only 30%, statistically manifests the shifts occurring within the constituencies of each party – the wealthy dem elites representing oligarchy type wealth, vs the Republican under-represented working classes. In fact it seems to be more of a middle/working class vs celebrity/corporate/wealthy class election than one pitting blue against red.

It’s all good Janz. LIke I said, there will always be something “reasonable” that will require an inquiry. Getting back to my original point, this reasonable inquiry is likely to delay or prevent certification .. thus no electors from Georgia.
