So it comes down to the very small segment of voters who have not made up their minds. How it is possible to have not made up their minds by now is a mystery.

  13. A lot of comedy in that PPP release. For instance the headline:

“Battleground State Surveys Show Harris can Defeat Trump”

Yeah, she can defeat Trump if this survey is completely wrong.

“Trump remains stuck in the mid 40s in the opening multi-candidate ballot tests.”

Well, yeah, but there are third party candidates siphoning off votes, so Trump only needs to get to the mid to high 40s, and this same poll shows Harris barely reaching the 40s in MI and AZ.

But if this is the best PPP can do for Kamala, what will less partisan pollsters show?

  15. There has been much attention to alleged missteps by Trump. Most of this has come from those who dislike Trump and are therefore prone to focus on what he does wrong.

    Two points about that….

First, all candidates make mistakes. Even the candidate of your choice.

Second….Trump was convicted of felonies, was fined $400M+, and survived an assassination attempt. Biden had the worst debate ever and was drummed out of office. Yet the polls have barely moved. Why do we think his next misstep will suddenly cause movement that hasn’t happened yet?

  16. Here is my early take on each battleground state after the Dems swapped the demented candidate for the cackling one:

1-3 points more blue: MN, CO, VA, NJ, WI

About the same numbers: NV, AZ, NC, GA, NH, ME

1-3 points more red: MI, PA, NM

Harris sures up some of the blue states Biden shouldn’t have put into play, but is not in any better position to win, especially given her weakness in MI and PA.

Things could change, but so far this gambit amounts to re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

  20. As to Harris and her veep pick, its a dilemma. If she goes hard left with her pick, she has no shot at all in many states, and this could even keep VA in play. Look what happened when the previous VA governor went too far left.

But if she picks an alleged centrist Dem like the KY Governor, then she loses the fringe left and with Stein, Oliver, and in a few states West on the ballot, they will throw their votes away on these candidates.

Probably her best bet is to pick Shapiro, hoping to snag PA, while giving up on MI, hope for a win in WI, and then rely on plumbing problems in Atlanta to steal GA, and that gives her 271.

Its not a great path for her, but its probably her best path.

  27. Phil, oh I know. That’s why I said the pick of Shapiro immediately forfeits Michigan. But IF Shapiro could deliver PA (and I am not sure he can), and IF she could hold WI with its status as the most polarized state in the union with very little in the middle that moves, and IF she can get another plumbing problem in Atlanta to steal GA, then she gets 271, assuming she doesn’t lose NH, ME, NM, VA, or other possibilities. Its not a great path, but from what I can see on the map, its her best shot. I am all ears if someone can propose an easier path for her.

Sorry bout my rant last night.

Background as to why: When I taught high school, I made the kids fully understand both sides of an issue, and then make a stand on the issue based on a full understanding of all sides. I did not care if they CHANGED their original views or not. But at the end, they would at least understand the intricacies of the issue from all sides and the decision they made would (hopefully) be more a reasoned and well-thought out one that was not simply based on emotion or on how person X felt about the issue. I had some measure of success in this approach.

When I was in the legislature, I tried same thing with other legislators on issues who were opposed to issue X that I strongly favored. I often found these adults had bad information as to why they opposed X. I tried to educate them on why I was for X. In the end, I had some good results in getting them to understand the issue of X but had less positive results than dealing with the high school teens. Many of the adults, simply refused to truly consider the facts of my position on X, and in the end they remained opposed to X for the same reasons they opposed X in the beginning.

Fast forward to yesterday evening. The missus and I were invited to a social gathering hosted by an In couple from India. Arranged marriage for them in India. Came to U.S. 30 some years ago. Became U.S. citizens. He owns a string of local gas stations /convenience stores. They live in a $900,000 home, their annual income is somewhere in the $450,000 to $740,000 in attendance. They are in their mid to late 50s.

Other married couples in attendance are all 76 -79 years old and included couple who are both retired school principals, another couple retired school principal and classroom teacher. Another couple was retired VMI civil engineer graduate and his retired classroom teacher wife and good friends of ours with whom we vacation together. plus Mrs. Walt and I.

All the other couples live in $600,000 to $1,000,000 homes, have annual incomes in $200,000 to $400,000 range. All are college educated with master’s Degrees (but I have no idea about the education level of the couple from India). At least two couples had other 2nd homes/hunting “cabins”.

Walt and the missus live in a $460,000 home and have income of $130,000. & no second home.

    ___________________________

Everything going well. Then someone brings up POLITICS. I keep my mouth shut. All I hear from 8 of the 9 others is about how bad Trump is. Trump is convicted felon. Trump faked the assassination attempt. How crass for Trump to kiss the fireman’s suit. I even hear one female, retired, long-time principal say, with not one factual example to support it, she thinks “Biden is one of the best presidents ever and has done so much for the country in his 3 1/2 years.” My tongue is nearly bleeding by this time.

I finally, in a nice way, give them my little HHR speech of “I don’t care for either Trump or Biden but it saddens me that people are not looking at the issues (southern border, inflation, taxes, foreign policy, etc. and what candidate best matches our own views but instead focus on other things that deflect from issues.

    ****************************

The ONLY person who I got a fairly good hint was planning to vote for Trump was the guy from India who owns the convenience stores. And HE was the one who gave a more detailed understanding of the ins and outs of what was happening politically than ANY of the others. Sad.

    *******************************

I would say 3/4 of all my college educated friends detest Trump and will not vote for him (felon, bad tweets, obnoxious, can’t trust him, womanizer–never about stances on issues). My blue-collar son with only a HS education–without any prompting from me, tells me why he is pro Trump due to specifics on issues A,B,C,D, E and why he detests the Dems.

That put me in a sour mood when I got home and got back on HHR.

It is interesting how being a Trump supporter differs depending on location. I spend time in IL, FL and WI.

Trump supporters in IL (especially the entire Chicago area) are largely closeted and often attend parties such as Walt describes.

In most of Florida, Trump people are socially free to wear Trump on their sleeves and vehicles. Democrat supporters are more closeted.

WI is the ground zero for the big shift ongoing in the Republican party. The three county region near me went Obama (near 60%), Obama (less), Trump (by a little), then Trump by a lot. It will be Trump by more this time. We’ll see if these poorer, more rural areas can outweigh Milwaukee and Madison (and the stout vote fraud machine).

  55. Shapiro is Jewish, DW. He helps a little in Pennsylvania”

He is more than “Jewish”. Bernie Sanders and Chuck Schumer are “Jewish”. Pritzker is “Jewish’.

He is a practicing Conservative (most American Jews are Reform) Kosher keeping Jew who has stated been Jewish is central to his career.

In an interview ahead of the inauguration, Shapiro said the Bibles symbolize how his Jewish faith has and will continue to guide him as he commits to “being a good governor” for Pennsylvanians. “I have made clear that my faith is what called me to service,” he said.

“Shapiro plans to post mezuzahs and have a kosher kitchen in the governor’s official residence”

He has also made the following statements, very opposite to what Kamala has been stating

    • This is not a moment for moral equivalency, called Hamas’ action “barbarism”
    • He revised the administration’s code of conduct to include termination of state employees who support Hamas with “scandalous or disgraceful” behavior
    • Israel has the responsibility to destroy Hamas
    • “I am pro-the idea of a Jewish homeland, a Jewish state, and I will certainly do everything in my power to ensure that Israel is strong and Israel is fortified and will exist for generations,” Shapiro told the New York Times.
    • Said if universities cannot ensure the safety of Jewish students then the governor, mayor or other local authority needs to intervene.
    • Called the protester’s use of the word “genocide” outside Jewish businesses like “1930’s Germany stuff”.

if Kamala picks him for VP it would be an extraordinary admission that she thinks she is in real trouble. But in my view, she will win or lose for other reasons, not the VP pick.

I certainly agree with Shapiro’s view of Israel and Hamas, but let’s face it, it is not (unfortunately) the view of a lot of under 30 voters who have been migrating to Trump. Shapiro will not reverse that trend.

From me… Someone who believes Oswald worked alone, the earth is round, and Armstrong landed on the moon… We’re told the shooter is some 20-year-old loser the govt would never hire to kill Trump…. I disagree… This was a pretty sophisticated assassin… Range finder… knew how to use it… knew what to do with the data… Explosives with remote detonator Flew a freaken drone over the site Encrypted features on his phone Only failed due to a fluke turn of a head Only failed because a local cop who wasn’t in on the plot rattled him? Fired in crowd to create havoc? Explosion was supposed to help him get away? Despite what we’re being told by the RussiaCollusionHunterLaptopLabLeakLiars, this is definitely not some bullied loser who snapped and got a hold of Dad’s rifle. And we’re talking about the same administration that tried to remove Trump from the ballot, bankrupt him, and imprison him for life… We’re talking about a Secret Service that’s stonewalling like mad and just told us they do not have radio comm recordings of the day…

  84. Kamala will be treated as the second coming. They think that she will save the election. Think about it. The Dems will believe that voters will chose Kamala Harris to be President of the United States when they said no to Hillary clinton.

Now…to point out something Jason would normally do, they now have unfettered, unsecured early voting that goes up to six weeks before th election. Ballot harvesting in important states, and of course, the old, stop the counting at 3 am. Don’t think for a moment they wont employ all the above to win.

Harris is the VP, has been since 2020.

Where is the miracle “dark horse” Senator YOU assured us was going to replace Biden and win the election. Where is your favorite pick, Senator Warner? He is so “popular” he is not even being considered for VP.

I was right. Dems had no bench, unless you really consider Harris “bench”. You were wrong, your theory was garbage, and now you say I was “wrong”?

But IF they dump Harris and put in a “dark horse” instead, and the “dark horse” wins, you would be right.

I will bet against it if you want to bet.

Once you’ve been stung by a wasp you become very aware of wasps and their stinger in the future. Most people are fearful of the same tactics being deployed by the Dems in the 2024 election. However, I think there will be more eyes on and counter actions in play this November than there were in 2020. The real fears are what other and/or malevolent ploys, ruses, misinformation obstructions the Dems have ready to use as antidotes to having a fair election.

  95. Does Bitter have evidence that the government did not try to have Trump killed?

Nope, because – contrary to all huge stories of this kind – the government hasn’t said anything about the events of that day. Typically (perhaps universally) law enforcement has daily (often more than one) press conferences to give whatever detail they can.

This time? Nada. The USSS had to be subpoenaed in order to show up and refuse to answer. The Ostrich isn’t bothered a bit.

I said the day after the event that conspiracies grow in the absence of information. Now they have. You can blame your beloved, fully trustworthy government for that.

The Secret Service and local law enforcement F’ed up completely, possibly because they were too blinded to the idea that a 20 year old loser could make the attempt. A conspiracy would not rely on a 20 year old loser. That is my take on it.

Bitter, why did this young “loser” have 2 cell phones, 3 encrypted overseas accounts, sophisticated knowledge of explosives/detonator, range finder, when being described as living with reclusive parents and having relatively little experience with the outside world? Yes, there were SS screw-ups, but why so many, one after the other? Why do you automatically dismiss any outside help, or an enlarged cabal seeking to end Trump, before he could officially accept the Republican nomination in a few days? Does your curiosity ever go into areas unseen by your eyes, and only accept conventional easy suppositions of what happened?

  113. I think that Gen. Custer’s Indian scouts were in on the massacre at Custer’s Last Stand.

I heard from someone whose great, great grandmother saw a drawing in the dust not 2 weeks later that could have implied the scouts gave Custer bad info and told him there were very few Indians there and they had no guns, and also tipped off Sitting Bull and company compadres that Custer’s troops were near. Why else would some of the scouts ride away to the top of a hill and watch the fighting? They think it might have been payback from when the white men gypped the Indians and got Manhattan Island for $24 worth of beads.

It is a shame that one of the first to die was one of Custer’s Indian scouts who was shot in the head and had his brain matter splattered over Benteen (or was it one of the other top ranking cavalry officers who were in another column other than the one led of Custer).

Cheatle became the scapegoat who resigned with an intact pension. Mayorkas, who has authorizing power over the Secret Service’s actions, has not even been drawn into the picture. Ron Johnson, who is attempting to look into some of incompetence, to see if it was planned or deliberate or not, is not receiving any cooperation from government officials in responding to congressional inquiries.
