  4. What I am looking forward to seeing is substantial regional data on the Trump vs Harris question. From what I have read, she is not expected to do well in NV and AZ. So far GA looks like she is not getting anywhere. Her position in Wisconsin is slightly better than Biden’s, but PA is much worse for her, while MI is about the same.

I expect MN, VA, CO, and NJ to be staying blue with Harris, but I would like to see some polling of NM.

If Harris picks Mark Kelly, then Trump can win, but it will not be a blow out and he is going to have to actually shut his mouth like he did during the debate.

If she picks Cooper, she still will not carry NC.

If she picks Shapiro or Whitmier, he chances are better than Biden’s were, but not enough.

The only one that can beat Trump, if Harris is the Democrat, is the Trump who cannot control himself.

  32. AH, very good analysis. I have been trying to analyze who honestly would help Harris the most electorally (besides Trump LOL) and I think Kelly is probably the best. She has to win one of AZ and NV and has zero chance with any of the other candidates. She still faces an uphill battle as she was/is the Border Czar and it carries all that baggage. Even though Democrats believe there is no border crisis and this administration has the best record ever (remember, Trump put kids in cages), people in the southwest are pissed off.

Cooper doesn’t carry NC, and does that mean he drops out of the Gov race? I think that alone means he is out. Shapiro hurts in MI, but probably solidifies PA. No way in hell he helps in AZ and NV and NE-2

leaves Bashear who doesn’t move the needle one bit anywhere.

  50. Conspiracy theorists look at events with open eyes, open minds, and thinking out of the box type of analysis. Many times such unorthodox theories prove to be factually correct, like the early assertion Trump was being surveilled (he was), his phones were bugged (they were), the FISA warrants were inaccurate (they had false info), or collusion with Russian was derived by a fabricated story (a story hatched up in a bar setting) . So, when assessing the circumstances or plots surrounding the Trump assassination attempt, I don’t understand the naysaying that instantly erupts by a few here. Why not first see where some of these stories lead investigators. Ron Johnson, for instance, is pursuing some interesting leads. And, as for that gateway pundit piece, it would be worthwhile knowing why there was a Crooks contact in DC, when the family was known to keep to themselves – almost recluses. And, the last device contact was July 12th, the day before the Butler event.

A bird flew down here into the abyss and told me what what Walt wrote was a crock.

As far as I know, no one here said Trump was the ONLY candidate that could win in 2024 unless it was Bunu. Also, outside of Janzam the Putin Nurse and Tina the Putin Free Passer I don’t remember anyone else saying he was the best R available. I don’t think even Chicon said that, but if he did, I stand corrected and tell him to GFH.

Since I am here, I might as well give my 2 cents on Harris VP and Shapiro.

I don’t think she will pick Shapiro, and if she did, he does NOT guarantee PA, he might help at the margins. People vote for the head of the ticket. I don’t think he would even help with the Jewish vote considering how anti-semitic Kamala is. Shapiro is a “do no damage” VP candidate, he is not really a plus. I really can’t see anyone inclined to vote for Trump in PA saying “hey, look, Shapiro is that dingbat’s VP, I will now vote for her”.

Personally, I don’t think ANY VP candidate helps her, so she might as well pick one that does not do damage. Since there are many that fit that bill, she won’t pick Shapiro because she views him as too pro-Israel. Maybe Bitter is right that the establishment Dems can tell all the anti-semites GFY but if they do it to win PA I think they would be making a mistake.

IF Shapiro was the nominee, THEN yes, I think he could carry PA. As VP, no.

Btw, Shapiro has his vulnerabilities too. He is getting royally skewered for supporting school choice in the campaign and then reneging due to pressure from the far left PA Dem House caucus. I listen to the Catholic Conference radio show on Saturdays, which covers PA politics, and Al Gnoza has been tearing him a new a-hole every week on several issues. He has not really gotten very much done because the PA Senate is Republican and is not passing the far left PA House bills.

His approval rating is better than Corbett’s or Wolf’s but nothing to get really excited about, not even 50%.

‘A recent poll by Franklin & Marshall College found 48% of voters believing Shapiro is doing an “excellent” or “good” job as Governor and 44% saying he’s doing either a “fair’ or “poor” job.’

I do share the view Walt expressed, that although I won’t be voting for the ticket, I prefer that Trump wins.

Btw, I don’t know about the Philly area, but here the anti-Kamala TV ads are already running non-stop.

  65. Got to thinking about the abortion issue.

Rep./Coservative view is at some point (either at conception or at somewhere in the womb), the unborn fetus/baby is a person. That person should have some rights, such as the right to live.

Dem./liberal view is that the fetus is not a person until all of it comes outside the vagina.

(except lots of Dems/Libs (in a puzzling flip of their pro-abortion beliefs) join with lots of Rep./Conservatives and agree with laws that say if a pregnant woman is killed by a drunk driver or a shooter, the culprit should be charged with two counts of murder (woman + unborn fetus/baby).

    ********

    Also,

Rep./conservative view concerning abortion also entails personal responsibility. Woman is pregnant, decides she wants an abortion, then there should not be government tax dollars involved in paying for it. You helped create it, you should take responsibility for it, and responsibility for causing the pregnancy to cease to exist if that is your choice. Personal responsibility.

Dem./Liberal view says you are not responsible for the fetus and sociated with aborting it. It is the government’s duty to cover the necessary costs to end your pregnancy. Government patriarchy, and dependence on government.

And if you have the baby, then it is the duty of the government to provide you with child care.

    Odd how that works.

Next, even if we were sending $60B in cash, and didn’t send it, it would SPENT ELSEWHERE on some entitlement program or another. It WOULD NOT go to the border. It would not go to pay down the debt. It would be used on some giveaway.

  91. Walt, are you including all Trump supporters in the Trump Bots Zombies category?

    Heavens NO. NO. NO.

    _____________________________

Because If I lived in a SWING state, I would be including ME, because I would feel that given the binary choice in my swing state, I would–like Bitter–be (reluctantly) voting for Trump because I would be forced hold my nose, vote Trump and hope for the best.

I would be voting Trump, despite the fact that I think Trump is a deeply flawed, unprincipled, shallow-thinking, inarticulate regarding the ISSUES or explaining thing in a coherent way, has-a-hard–time-working-with-others (even in his own party) candidate who cannot see the big picture such as he needs to be seen as a unifying force, and who seems to thrive on giving ammunition and windows of opportunity to his whack job Dem. opponents who are bend on running the country over a cliff. (But even though I would be voting Trump, I would still bitch about Trump when I thought he was screwing up–unlike the Bots.)

I admire Bitter in his voting for Trump in the past and future and who has weighed the plusses and minuses of Trump, strengths and weaknesses, and still is a Trump voter.

IMO, we Rs had better candidates with less baggage we could have selected that I felt would be in a better position right now than Trump vs the Dem. Hounds From Hell.

I know Primaries are over we have who we have. I should quit my bitching. Stop saying negative things about Trump.

    *****************************************

But I am tired of having to live the 2/3 of my life with Presidents, R and D, who are failures–or lack-luster at best. I am tired of Republican presidential candidates too often making bonehead mistakes and tired of them losing.

Worst presidents in my lifetime include Biden, Trump, Obama. (Yes, Trump did do some good things and COVID helped bring him down). The Bushes were not much better, and both Bil Clinton and his wife were moral cesspools (though the economy did do well when Clinton was president, and he was dilly dallying with the interns).

Bush #l did the right thing with building coalition and stopping Hussein and kicking him out of Kuwait and was in office continuing Reagan policies that help hasten the collapse of the Soviet Union. 90%+ approval rating after kicking Hussein out of Kuwait. DID NOT use that high approval rating to move the country domestically for good reforms. Just oversee domestic things as normal. The Bushes (1 and 2) had a view of the Presidency domestically being a caretaker position to oversee the country and rather than being a agent of change for needed right-leaning policy changes.

Bush 2 did right thing after 9/11 in going after the terrorists in an A+ way. 90%+ approval rating. DID NOT use that high approval rating to push any big and needed right-leaning policy changes. Then he decides to stay in Iraq too long, and Americanize Iraq and Afghanistan, bring democracy, etc. to peoples whose culture is not conducive for that. And U.S. spent lot of time, treasure, and blood on this foolish adventure and the staying in Iraq and Gannystan sadly defined his presidency more than being the President who rallied the nation after 9/11.

None of my top 7 presidents is without fault. But Washington, Jefferson, Monroe are in my top 7 presidents. Then there was Teddy Rosevelt as one of my top 7.

I was born when Truman was president (one of my top 7), followed by Eisenhower (another of my top 7), then the foggy mess of JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter. Then we get to Reagan (one of my top 7)

And it has been disappointing since then. I guess I expect more of my presidents.

Thanks for listening. I feel better. Good night.

  93. MG, I can assure you I am correct. Your list actually proves it.

    where do you think the following came from? 239 fuel tankers and 105 fuel trailers 58 water trailers; 125mm, 120mm, and 105mm tank ammunition; 20 Mi-17 helicopters; 72 105mm Howitzers:105mm artillery rounds; 203mm artillery rounds; 400,000 152mm artillery rounds; 40,000 130mm artillery rounds; 122mm artillery rounds; 122mm GRAD rockets: 45 T-72B tanks;

all existing stock somewhere in the world, some of them a bitch to get I am sure.

As for spending the money, I said, and maybe I wasn’t clear enough, that IF they were sending actual cash (which they aren’t), the Dems would have just spent it elsewhere and not on the border, is factually correct. They have never cut any money from the budget. Do you know what government agencies do every September…spend like crazy to ensure they use all their allotted money, because if not, their budgets will be reduced the following year.

Is it right. HELL NO. I wish the war in Ukraine was over and we could stop this argument. I believe we need fiscal constraint. But I am an old time Reagan conservative, and I believe military spending is just, and I believe helping the Ukraine defend itself is the right move. I don’t think it should last forever. I believe it will end with a Trump presidency.

Those weapons and supplies are not old weapons. Yes, they were in our inventory because we need them. And now we will have to spend billions of dollars replacing them. Get some sleep Vic. You will think clearer in the morning after a good night’s sleep. 😉

  96. Walt, – In Iraq the biggest failure was there was no plan for peace at all. You are correct in previous analysis that we can neither “democratize” nor “Christianize” every nation. We failed to take into account that these people had never know democracy…in fact, in their entire history they didn’t know it.

We just expected to ride in there like conquering heroes, and they would have all of sudden said, “well. bless Allah. This democracy thing works, so lets try it”

By killing off Hussein we created a massive vacuum we were not prepared to fill, nor should we have.

It was “light model” that was being pushed at the time, which was an abject failure at its concept, and in its execution. In and out fast, and be done. The mission wasn’t a failure, the failure was the aftermath.

What’s the plan for peace in Ukraine?

From what I read here, it is a Marshall Plan style rebuilding of Ukraine to begin only after Russia gives back every square inch (perhaps including Crimea).

Is that how you see it?
